Academic translations and more…

I offer translation of academic texts from Italian into English in the following sectors:

  1. Philosophy;
  2. Film Studies;
  3. Social and Political Sciences;
  4. Town Planning;
  5. Architecture;
  6. Education;
  7. History;
  8. Germanic Studies.

My philosophy:

My aim is to provide a translation that reflects precisely what the author intends to say. In order to do so, it is vital to understand the text in all its nuances. Hence, it is necessary to have an extremely firm grasp of the source language as well as a sensitivity for the subject-matter. Should there be any doubts to resolve over comprehension or terminology, I like to work in close collaboration with the author. Indeed I deem a good working relationship between writer and translator to be of utmost importance to achieve a satisfactory finished product for the end readership.

“At least be sure you go to the author to find his meaning, not to find yours”

John Ruskin

Added value:

In the event that the text contains quotations from published works, in addition to Internet sources, I have authorized entry to the EUI library in Florence http://www.eui.eu/Research/Library/Index.aspx as well as the possibility of access libraries in England for texts that are particularly tricky to find.

I take care to follow publishers’ specific guidelines or the main styles in use in the Anglo-Saxon world, such as Chicago, APA and Cambridge, both in the text and in the notes and bibliography.

Other sectors of expertise:

In recent years I have built up expertise in the world of contemporary art, translating exhibition catalogues for artists of the calibre of Jan Fabre, Carol Rama, Mauro Staccioli and many more. In addition, I have been working for the travel journal, Cartography, since its debut in 2017.
